Europeana Sounds is Europeana's 'missing' fifth domain aggregator, next to APEX (Archives), EUscreen (television), the Europeana Film Gateway (film) and TEL (libraries). The project aims to bring together this specific type of cultural heritage to increase access to and creative re-use of European audio and audio-related content.
Audio content will include music (traditional, modern and classic), sounds of nature and environment, oral history as well as recordings of languages and dialects. Europeana Sounds is intended to become a sustainable best practice network of stakeholders to aggregate, enrich and share a critical mass of audio for public audiences, the creative industries (notably publishers) and researchers. Partners are a.o. Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg. Coordinating partner is the British Library.
